About Kiso Forest

Kiso is blessed with abundant nature, including the source of the Kiso River, Mount Ontake, and Mount Kisokoma. Approximately 93% of the area is covered by forests, and the region is home to forestry and woodworking industries, as well as schools for training these professionals. Tourism resources include the Old Nakasendo Road, a designated Japan Heritage site, post towns, and traditional crafts. However, due to population decline and an aging population, maintaining these attractions is becoming increasingly difficult. Kiso aims to improve the forest environment by promoting industries such as forestry and woodworking, which will contribute to solving major issues such as global warming. To achieve this, industry, government, academia, and citizens must work together to nurture forests, utilize timber, and develop human resources. This website will introduce examples of these efforts, and we welcome inquiries from those who would like to take advantage of these efforts.
